How to keep your pet safe during Christmas

The Christmas holidays can be a stressful time for many, especially around the days of Christmas and Boxing day where there are lots involved with friends and family and events and dinners to plan, etc. Our pets also need to be paid attention to make sure they are safe and cared for in those environments with lots of people about. Some things I thought about that might be helpful.

  • Keep them clear of Christmas lights and wires
  • Find them a safe and secure area when your guests arrive and include them with the crowds only when it is safe, and everyone knows of their presence
  • If you have a dog, exercise it before your guests arrive so that all the excess energy is burnt away and you get a more relaxed dog than a hyper over-energetic one
  • On Boxing Day, you and your kids will be surrounded by new gifts and presents. Make sure that these are out of reach and do not pose a choking hazard for your pets
  • If you are leaving your pet at home with a sitter or someone to check on them when you are away ensure all potential hazards are checked and mitigated to avoid any issues with your pet while you are away.

Well, that’s all for now, have a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
